Kids benefit from seized noise equipment

Dozens of Islington kids will be enjoying spinning the decks this summer at Barnard Park Youth Centre thanks to a clever idea to donate audio equipment seized as part of raids by the Council's noise patrol.<br><br>12 year old Robert Mitchell said the music equipment at the Centre was:"Fun and educational."<br><br>Centre manager Jenny O'Shea commented: <br>"Up to 30 kids a day can use the equipment - they've really enjoyed the guitars, amps and decks. There's even a DJ workshop planned."<br> <br>Cllr Laura Willoughby, executive member for communities said:"The Youth Centre is just one of many great activities for Islington kids this summer from sport (Youth Games, Aquaterra summer programme) to science (Sustainability Week, Ecology Centre).<br> <br>It's great that communities up and down the borough are coming together in their leisure time to take advantage of what Islington has to offer."<br><br>Young people at Barnard Park Youth Centre were delighted to receive mixing decks, turntables, CD players , guitars and speakers courtesy of Islington's Noise Patrol. A Noise Patrol officer visited the project to talk to the staff and young people about responsible use. <br><br>The council routinely confiscates music equipment from clubs, raves and domestic premises which is used irresponsibly.<br><br>ENDS
