Islington Education Week turns five this year and this year we are set to celebrate in style! <br><br>Councillor James Kempton, executive member for children said: "Education Week gives us the chance to celebrate education in Islington and this year we have a lot to shout about. We've had the best GCSE results ever, excellent Ofsted reports for schools including EGA and North Islington Nursery School. Our Online centres are giving hundreds of people an opportunity to get back into learning and more people are visiting our libraries. <br><br>"Alongside the £40 million spent on our schools over the last five years and the future multi million pound investment in our secondary schools - with Children's Commission working with us to help us deliver our services more effectively the future is looking brighter. Come along celebrate education in Islington."<br><br>Bill Clark, Director of Schools' Services, CEA@Islington: "Education Week is a great opportunity for Islington residents and young people to enjoy the wider aspects of education."<br><br>As well as celebrating the achievements of Islington's looked after children one of this year's undoubted highlights will be the Early Year's Carnival of Colour at Whittington Park. <br><br>The event runs from 11.30am - 2.30pm on Wednesday 29 June with lots going on from Pekos puppet show, The Chicken Shed Theatre Company, George Brade Steel Band, clowns, Arsenal coaches and a special guest appearance by Gunnersaurus. There will also be information stalls and displays, Creative Arts Workshops and lot's more! <br><br>Thursday 30 June we have the 'Islington Debate' at 5pm in the council chamber at the Town Hall. A selection of pupils from secondary schools will be debating “Can the views of school pupils make a difference?” <br><br>Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July The Demon Headteacher, is performed at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Matinee and evening performances on both days. Call 020 7257 2000 for ticket details. <br><br>EC1 will be holding their summer fete on Saturday 2 July at King's Square EC1. <br><br>And because we believe learning never stops we also have a huge range of activities for our adult learners. One lucky person will win a PC, plus the first 20 people to sign up for a course at each of 20 Islington Online Centre will get a free flash drive!
