Happy birthday North Islington School

Islington Council's North Islington Nursery school is 75 this year and to celebrate the nursery is looking back on the last three quarters of a Century.<br><br>Councillor James Kempton, executive member for children said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be able to wish North Islington, our first ever nursery school a happy birthday. 75 years of providing an excellent service to the children of Islington - that really is a fantastic achievement. Not only does nursery continually receive excellent Ofsted reports but it also appeared in the DfES internet hall of fame.<br><br>"The nursery has been bombed, burnt down and broken into so we want as many people as possible to celebrate with us. We want former pupils and their parents and members of staff to share their memories and stories of the nursery. The first stone was laid by Margaret McMillan in 1930 and North Islington Nursery was officially opened in November 1931 by Lady Astor. The school was bombed during WWII and rebuilt in 1949. The new nursery was officially opened by the late Princess Alice. Duchess of Gloucester by which time there were 30 children enrolled and 70 on the waiting list. In 1952 and again in 1999 the nursery was expanded until today the school has 110 children.<br><br>Ends
