Islington’s Young People Shout about Green Issues

The voice of Islington’s young people will be represented by two local schools at the third Say it Loud! festival on sustainable development on Youth Action Day, Friday 17 June 2005.<br><br>Canonbury Primary School and Pooles Park Primary School are among 25 London schools taking part in the festival, timed to coincide with London Sustainability Weeks (LSW).<br><br>Say it Loud! is the key event to be held on LSW’s Youth Action Day and will be an opportunity to celebrate school projects which promote sustainable development through education.<br><br>Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability, said: "Islington's young people have a right to be heard - they want a greener, cleaner borough and we are listening.<br><br>Youth Action Day gives teachers and pupils a unique opportunity to share their ideas in a day of fun and imagination."<br><br>Jay Henderson, headteacher, Canonbury Primary School said: "Canonbury pupils are very motivated by a concern for the environment and this initiative has given the children a great opportunity to get involved and express their ideas."<br><br>Islington will join in the London Sustainability Weeks’ celebration of community action for a cleaner, greener and healthier London through numerous environmentally-themed activities from 5-19 June 2005, culminating in the Imagine Islington family event in Angel Town centre on Sunday 19 June.<br><br>ENDS
