Islington residents and visitors can have fun as they learn about how to make a difference to their local environment at the 'Imagine Islington' sustainability festival on Sunday 19 June 2005 (11am–5pm).
A host of sites around Upper Street and Angel town centre will be transformed with free attractions and activities such as a picnic, creative arts, performances and workshops to help inform people about local and global environmental issues.
Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability, said:
“Islington people care about the environment and the Council is committed to making Islington a cleaner, greener place to live. People are more and more concerned about climate change, pollution and waste but don't always feel they can do anything about it - in fact we can all do our bit, more easily than you think. Imagine Islington is a fun, family-friendly day showing the latest ways of living, travelling and shopping greener.”
The Imagine Islington event invites residents to imagine a greener future for the borough and to share their ideas on what sustainability means for Islington, and how these local issues can impact on a wider global scale.
Activities and stalls will be concentrated around Angel town centre at Islington Green, Islington Farmers’ Market, the N1 Shopping Centre, St Mary’s Church, Chapel Market, and Culpeper Community Garden. A range of Upper Street cafes and restaurants will also be participating. Trail maps will be available on the day.
Imagine Islington is the culmination of the borough’s activities for London Sustainability Weeks (5-19 June). For information on London Sustainability Weeks, visit http://www.lsw2005.org/.
