Islington and Haringey Councils have agreed a joint project to provide traders in Stroud Green Road with extra parking for customers.

New pay and display bays could be installed this year if residents and traders approve the scheme. Waiting and loading restrictions will also be changed where possible to help local businesses as part of a wide-ranging review of parking for businesses and their customers.

Stroud Green Road is a boundary road between the two boroughs - so a joined up approach was considered the best way forward. Following consultation with Transport for London on the narrow width of the road, parking bays will be staggered to allow bus traffic to keep moving.

Subject to consultation, parking bays may be appearing opposite Ennis Road and Perth Road while pay and display machines may come in between Perth Road and Tollington Park.

To maximise the number of people who can use the parking spaces, the pay and display machines will limit shoppers to a maximum stay of two hours.

Last year, the Council provided pay and display bays on an experimental basis at Essex Road to help local traders.

Cllr George Allan, executive member for customer focus said:

"We are always looking at how we can help local traders by changing the parking restrictions to reflect the needs of the community."

It's all part of our drive to make things better in Islington."

ENDS
