You've got to get up early to beat Islington's Clean Team these days.

Five local shops, including the Post Office, are boasting cleaner surroundings following a dawn, graffiti-busting clean-up campaign on Grosvenor Avenue, Canonbury, on Friday 20 May. The Clean Team gave this corner of Islington a clean, fresh new look, arriving on the scene at 5am.

The early start was at the request of shopkeepers, to allow them to continue serving the Islington community and minimise inconvenience during trading hours.

Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability, said:

"Keeping Islington clean and safe are key priorities for the council. Spot clean ups are popular with local residents and traders - we are delighted they share our vision of cleaner, safer streets”.

The spot clean-ups are part of Islington Council’s A1 Borough project, to keep the area clean and well cared for. As part of this initiative an extra £1m has been dedicated to graffiti removal, mechanised pavement cleaning and more street sweepers at evenings and weekends.

ENDS
