For a variety of reasons some children can't live with their own families and they need someone else to look after them. At a special event last week Islington Council gave a big thank you to its foster carers<br><br>Councillor James Kempton, executive member for children said:"Foster carers do an amazing job and they can make such a difference to children's lives. <br><br>"Islington needs more foster carers and we are looking for people like you to help care for those children who can't live with their families. Why not give us a call on 0800 073 0428 or email fostering@islington.co.uk and find out more about becoming a foster carer."<br><br>Helen Burns, lives in City Road and has been fostering for nearly two years. "I wish I'd have done it years ago. I attended an open evening and I've never looked back. I get such pleasure out of looking after the children and making things better."<br><br>There are 446 children in the care of Islington Council who can't live with their families for one reason or another. Islington currently has 93 families offering homes to our children but we still need more people to give a child a home. <br><br>This year Islington Council is looking for at least 40 more families to help care for some of Islington's children.<br><br>Islington pays generous fostering allowances in expenses and rewards to enable foster carers to give children the best possible chances in life and offers a full training and 24 hour support programme.<br><br>To find out more about becoming interested in becoming a foster carer Islington Council will give you 24 hour support, a generous allowance and training.
