Put a spring in your step by taking part in a new series of fortnightly walks across the EC1 area.Jointly run by Islington and Camden councils, the scheme is part of a national drive to improve health and fitness, particularly among people at risk of heart disease and other related illnesses. The walks are a chance to discover some hidden green spots of EC1 and find out just how great walking can make you feel. They are suitable for everyone, regardless of age or how fit you are and are also a great way of meeting people. Qualified walk leaders supervise each trip and there are benches and toilets along each route. In addition, Islington and Camden work with community groups to organise walks especially for their members. All walks begin at St Luke’s Parochial Trust Day Centre, 90 Central Street, EC1V. There are no charges and no need to book – just turn up a few minutes before the start time of 11am. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a small bottle of water. Each walk takes about an hour.Councillor Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability said;“With spring almost upon us its time to shake off the winter blues, enjoy some fresh air, discover some of Islington’s hidden green gems and meet new people. Plus the exercise is great!”Initially the walks will centre around four set routes. These encompass Kings and Northampton Squares, Spa Fields, Finsbury Square and Bunhill Fields. For more information on routes and times, contact Emma Charlton, Walking Co-Ordinator, on020 7527 2626 or email: emma.charlton@islington.gov.uk.Ends***Photo opportunity***All walks start from 11am at St Luke’s Parochial Trust Day Centre.Timetable:March10 March24 MarchApril walks7 April21 AprilMay walks5 May19 MayJune Walks2 June16 June30 JuneNotes to editors1.
