Wharfdale Road Environmental Traffic Management and Safety SchemeMotorists, pedestrians, residents and cyclists are set to benefit from a new and improved Wharfdale Road. Islington Council wants residents and business to tell them what type of improvements they would like to see along the road as part of a new environmental traffic management and safety scheme. The scheme aims to reduce vehicle speeds and volumes, improve pedestrian and cyclist safety, and reduce the adverse effects of traffic on properties along Wharfdale Road. The proposals include installing a zebra crossing, cycle lane, parking bays, trees and pedestrian signals at the Caledonian Road junction. The new traffic scheme is in response to concerns raised by residents and users of the road.Consultation documents will be sent to residents early in March and an exhibition explaining the options in greater details will be held on the 12th March at The Courtyard Theatre, Foyer, 10 York Way N1 9AA.Councillor Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability said;“I’m delighted that we have secured funding to make much needed improvements to Wharfdale Road. The works along the road will make the road safer and more attractive for all its users. And I hope many people tell us what they would like to be included in the scheme.”The results of the consultation will determine what elements of the scheme will go ahead. It is expected that work will begin in the summer.Islington Council obtained £270,000 of works funding from P & O’s Regent Quarter development and the Borough Spending Plan for the environmental traffic management and safety scheme on Wharfdale Road.NotesWharfdale road exhibitionThe Courtyard Theatre, Foyer, 10 York Way N1 9AA10am-1pm Saturday 12th March 2005
