Colour coded bays to make parking easier

Date: 25-Feb-05 by Kate Barlow

Making parking easierIslington Council is pioneering new colour coded parking spaces in an effort to make it easier for motorists to identify what type of bay they are parking in.Colour coded symbols are being painted in the bays to differentiate between resident, shared use, loading and disabled bays. The council hopes this will make it easier to choose the right bay to park in. The parking bays will be identified with the following symbols:Resident only bay - red squareShared use bay - blue triangle (resident and pay & display)Disabled bay - green circleLoading bay - yellow starThe colour coded parking bays are being introduced on Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park between Seven Sisters Road and Lennox Road on an experimental basis. The new signs will be in addition to the normal signs telling people what sort of bay they are.If the pilot scheme is successful, Islington Council will extend the programme into new and existing CPZs where different types of parking bay may have caused confusion.Cllr George Allan, executive member for customer focus said: “We want parking in Islington to be as simple as possible and are trying different methods to prevent confusion about where people can or cannot park. I hope the colour coding works and I’d welcome any feedback motorists may have about the scheme.” ENDS
