Local residents can find out ways to save money and help the environment at the same time, when Islington Energy Centre takes to the road in February. The Energy Efficient Roadshow will be visiting shopping areas, community groups, the central library and other venues along or close to the A1 between 1st and 24th February.Energy Advisers will be on hand to offer free, independent and expert advice and demonstrate energy saving techniques for people to implement at home. This could range from simply turning off the TV when not in use to installing new central heating systems and solar panels. They will also be giving away a free low energy light bulb to each household that visits. Councillor Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability said, “It is surprising how a few simple adjustments to everyday life can make a sizeable difference. For example, if every household along the A1 visited a roadshow event and fitted their free low energy bulb, they would save enough carbon to fill 29,323 Olympic sized swimming pools.”The road shows are part of the A1 Borough project that aims to radically improve the quality of life for everyone who lives, works and studies on or close to the A1 in Islington. In addition to the roadshows, residents and businesses can call into the centre at 159 Upper Street at any time between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, or call freephone 0800 512 012The road shows will be appearing at the following venues:Date Venue Address TimeTues 1 Feb London Metropolitan University Holloway Road, N7 12:30 – 16:00 Sat 5 Feb Central Library 2 Fieldway Crescent, N7 10:00-16:00Fri 11 Feb Northern Health Centre 594-596 Holloway Road, N7 10:00– 16:00Sat 12 Feb Nags Head Shopping Centre Holloway Road, N7 10:00– 16:00Tues 15 Feb Hargrave Community Group Hargrave Road, N19 9:30– 12:30Weds 16 Feb Indo-Pakistani Cultural Centre 16-18 Hornsey Road, N7 13:00– 16:00Thurs 17 Feb Chapel Market Angel, N1 9:00– 16:00Fri 18 Feb South Sudanese Community Group 73 Hornsey Road, N7 13:30– 16:00Tues 22 Feb Firestation Community Group 84 Mayton Street, N7 13:00– 16:00Weds 23 Feb Islington Chinese Association 33 Giesbach Road, N19 13:00– 16:00Thurs 24 Feb Whitecross Street Market EC1 10:00– 16:00For more information about the road shows, contact the Energy Centre on 0800 512 012 or e-mail: energy.advice@islington.gov.uk.
