A1 BOROUGH SCHOOLS ENVIRONMENTAL ART EXHIBITION

Date: 17-Jan-05 by Nicola Quinn

An exhibition of children’s artwork will be on display in the Town Hall foyer next week, 24-28 January. The 90 items have been selected from over 500 entries to a schools competition on the theme of anti-littering. Nine schools took part in the A1 Borough Schools Environmental Project, all located on or close to the A1 in Islington. Juniors took part in a colouring competition to choose the colour scheme for their school’s new Talking Bird Bin, while older children designed posters encouraging people to dispose of their litter responsibly. The Schools Environmental Project is an ongoing part of the A1 Borough project that aims to dramatically improve the quality of life for everyone who lives, works or studies on or close to the A1 in Islington over the next 10-15 years. The winning entries were judged by a panel headed by Councillor Bridget Fox, executive member for sustainability, who said, “It is never too early for children to learn the importance of valuing and taking care of our environment. I was very impressed by the quality of the entries, and it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm of the children who took part.” Prizes will be presented to the winners in school assemblies during the Spring term. The finalists’ work will be showcased from 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. The exhibition is free, and everyone is welcome to come and check out Islington’s young artistic talent.
