Tackling problem drinking in Farringdon and Clerkenwell

Consultation Dates: 15 March 2010 to 16 April 2010

Local residents have been telling us about alcohol related problems in Vernon Square and Farringdon. To tackle these problems, Islington Council is proposing a 'Designated Public Place Order' (DPPO).

A Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) gives the police extra powers to help them crack down on drinkers who disturb and intimidate other residents through their antisocial behaviour. The order does not ban drinking in public places but enables police officers to ask people to stop drinking where they have reason to believe that alcohol-related nuisance and annoyance is likely to occur. The police can also confiscate alcohol.

The DPPO area is highlighted in the map in the downloadable consultation brochure. The reason Islington Council is proposing the whole area is to prevent anti-social drinkers just moving on to neighbouring areas.

Once you have read the brochure you can e-mail your comments to CSPUteam@islington.gov.uk Please tell us whether you support or oppose the proposed DPPO. You must also include your name and address for your views to be counted.
