Your Neighbourhood, Your Islington results update

In September and November 2008 the council consulted residents on its Core Planning Strategy - otherwise known as Your Neighbourhood, Your Islington.

This important document will influence decisions about how the borough will develop up to 2025 and beyond, so the council wanted to make sure that all residents and stakeholders had a chance to give their views.

Over 2,200 of you responded to the consultation. Thank you! We will use these findings and continue to work with the local community to develop Islington’s Core Strategy. There will be ongoing consultation on a draft of the document in Summer 2009, before a final formal consultation in Autumn 2009.

The consultation was designed to find people’s priorities for the future on a number of important issues.

Most of you felt that equal priority should be given to social rented housing, such as council housing and intermediate housing including part-buy, part-rent schemes.

A majority of residents wanted to see Islington raise its environmental standards and protect local shops. There was also strong support for improving existing sports facilities, open spaces and play spaces. However, opinion was split on whether to allow tall buildings in restricted locations around the borough.

Islington’s Core Strategy is part of a portfolio of documents which will form the Local Development Framework (LDF). For more information click on "Local Development Framework" under Related Information on the right hand side of this page.
