Budget Consultation

Budget Consultation

The 2009/10 budget consultation took place between 24 October and 24 November 2008. The consultation is now closed. The results of the consultation will be published here in due course. So too will the name of the winner of the prize draw. Thank you to everyone who took part in this consultation.

Your Money, Your Views, Your Priorities

Next year the council will have a budget of around £240m. This money comes from a number of sources including the council tax that Islington residents pay. Some of the funding also comes from the business rates paid by local businesses.

We are consulting with local residents and businesses on what you think the council’s spending priorities should be next year. We are also asking residents what level of council tax you are willing to pay.

The consultation is taking place between 24 October and 24 November 2008.

Residents Survey

If you are a resident, you can tell us what you think by:

  • returning the consultation questionnaire with every copy of the council’s monthly magazine, IslingtonNow
  • submitting your comments electronically on our online questionnaire for Islington residents
  • or you can download and print a copy of the consultation questionnaire at the bottom of this page

Win £250 in gift vouchers!

Each resident who sends us a completed questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw to win £250 in gift vouchers.

How to tell us what you think

To complete the residents questionnaire simply follow the link above. It should only take about 5 minutes to complete.

Business Survey

We are also keen to hear what local businesses think we should spend our budget on next year. We have included three questions about the spending priorities in our annual business survey which is taking place over the same time period. All Islington businesses are invited to complete the 2008 business survey online. It should only take about 10 minutes to complete.

For more information about the annual business survey please visit our businesses partnership web page, using the link on the right.

What happens next?

The results of the consultation will be reported to councillors, including a verbal report to the council’s Overview Committee on 9 December 2008 and written report to the Executive meeting on 15 January 2009.

A summary of the results will be sent to everyone who responds to this consultation who requests to be informed about the results. There is a question in the questionnaire asking whether you would like to be informed.

The council’s budget, spending plans and the level of council tax for 2009/10 will be formally decided at the Council meeting in late February 2009. This information will be posted on the web site and details will be sent out with the council tax bills in March.

If you have any questions about this consultation you can e-mail consultation@islington.gov.uk or call Alistair Smith on 020 7527 3480.
