Getting Involved
There are many ways you can get involved, depending on how much time you have and how interested you are. From keeping informed to becoming a magistrate read on to find out more.
Report crime and anti-social behaviour
The council and the police rely on information from residents to help us tackle anti-social behaviour. If you have any concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour in your neighbourhood please report it. Often it can take time to collect evidence so we can tackle anti-social behaviour, whether it is noisy neighbours or suspected drug dealing, and we need residents to keep a note of dates and times of incidents. You can download an Incident Diary to help with this below.
Nominate an area for community payback
If there is a local community centre or greenspace that needs a clean up, why don't you nominate it for community payback? This is where local offenders work in their communities doing jobs such as painting, gardening or clearing rubbish and undergrowth. Set police priorities at ward panel meetings
If you are interested in working with your local Safer Neighbourhoods Police team to set local policing priorities then why don't you attend the quarterly ward panel meetings? At these meetings the police, the council and the community decide local priorities for the next three months. This will allow you to have your say about local issues that are important to you and your community. Neighbourhood Watch
We are always encouraging residents to set up neighbourhood watch schemes. Contact your local Safer Neighbourhoods police to find out about any schemes in your area, or how to set one up if you don't have one.
Become an "Eye"
Eyes for Islington members act as the eyes and ears of the borough and report issues such as dangerous footpaths, abandoned vehicles and crime hotspots. As soon as the council receives a report from an Eye, it responds to the problem as soon as possible.

Look out for your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team newsletters
You should receive four a year, delivered to your door, two joint ones from the council and the police and two from your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team. If you haven't received yours, please contact your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team. The latest joint edition can be downloaded from our Your Local Area section.
Volunteer!
Did you know that magistrates are volunteers? We need local magistrates to represent our local community. For more information and advice on becoming a magistrate visit the DirectGov website.
Victim Support
The majority of staff at victim support are volunteers – their work includes working with victims, supporting witnesses in court, and working on the victim support helpline. If you are interested in finding out more visit the Victim Support website.
Special Police Officers
The Met’s Special Constabulary is a force of volunteers. If you volunteer as a Special, you will have the same power as police officers and wear the same uniform. For more information visit the Metropolitan Police website.
