Neighbourhood management is all about improving the quality of life of local people through better coordination and a joined up approach to the delivery of key frontline services for local people.
Neighbourhood management in Islington is about bringing together the range of services that already exist in an area – not only those offered by statutory bodies such as the Council, Primary Care Trust and Police, but also those delivered by educational institutions, voluntary and community sector groups and local businesses - and making them work better together.
For neighbourhood management to be successful, the involvement of local residents is vital. By establishing local groups and partnerships, the neighbourhood management programme enables residents to take part in and influence the delivery of services in their area.
The approach in Islington is to target neighbourhood management in the most deprived areas of the borough. By improving delivery of core services in these areeas we aim to ensure that our most excluded and vulnerable residents are not adversely affected because of where they live.
The Islington Strategic Partnership (ISP) has allocated funding to develop neighbourhood management models in the seven wards containing the 11 most deprived areas in Islington:
Finsbury Park
Canonbury
Caledonian (Bemerton Estate)
Mildmay
Holloway (Market Estate & Ringcross Estate)
Barnsbury (Priory Green)
St Peter’s (Packington Estate)
The Islington Strategic Partnership is sponsoring a series of ward based conferences, aimed at bringing together frontline service providers in the most deprived areas so they can identify the local issues and discuss solutions and challenges. The outcomes from each of these conferences will inform an action plan for each of the seven neighbourhood management areas.
For each conference the ISP produces a detailed information pack about the ward. Click on the ward information pack links to see the packs for conferences we have already held. Further conferences are scheduled this winter.
