Corporate Equality Scheme and Community Cohesion Strategy 2008-2011

Islington Council is committed to listening to our diverse community and responding to their needs and aspirations. For many years we have sought to promote equality of opportunity for all our residents, service users and employees and this ongoing commitment is reflected in this Corporate Equality Scheme and Community Cohesion Strategy.

We have a vision of ‘One Islington’ where services work together to meet the needs of residents and where people are able to thrive, prosper, and reach their potential whatever their background. We want Islington to be a place where there is a culture of respect for human rights and where everyone can take responsibility for making Islington a better place. We want a borough of strong and active communities, where people are involved in the decisions that affect their lives.

This Scheme takes on board feedback from individuals and organisations and we wish to thank all those who have helped to shape it and hope they will continue to work with us to deliver it. We look forward to continuing to listen to residents and to working with them to make Islington a more prosperous and culturally rich place to live, work and visit.
