BVPIs are independently audited by the Audit Commission and provide objective information about the council’s performance in delivering services against set targets. The Government requires the council to produce this information under the Local Government Act 1999. BVPI results are used in the council’s Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) and contribute to its overall rating. In 2007 Islington was again rated a “three star” authority which is “improving well”.
2007/8 is the last year the council will report on performance in this way. Central government has introduced a new national set of indicators for local authorities and partners to be measured by a new performance management framework – Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA).
