Children and Families Partnership

Children and Families Partnership

No one organisation or individual can meet all the needs of a child or young person and it takes a community to raise happy, healthy and successful children. We know that we need to work together to address the factors that impact on the lives of children and families. This means children, families, the wider community, statutory and third sector organisations:

  • collectively leading,
  • making big strategic decisions together,
  • jointly deciding the shared vision and making sure this vision is implemented through the contribution of the community and network of services,
  • removing barriers that can impact on children's ability to thrive and progress, and parents' ability to support their children's development.

The Islington Children and Families Partnership (ICFP) has been set up to improve the wellbeing of all children and young people and to ensure that their parents, carers and communities have the support they need to nurture and care for them. We believe this can be achieved more effectively when all relevant organisations and agencies work together.

Interagency co-operation to improve the wellbeing of children

The Children Act 2004 requires local authorities, their statutory partners and other relevant local agencies whose work impacts on children and/or their parents, to work together to ensure:

  • physical and mental health and emotional well-being,
  • protection from harm and neglect,
  • access to education, training and recreation,
  • opportunities and support to make a positive contribution to society,
  • social and economic well-being.

These partnership arrangements are commonly known as a Children's Trust. In Islington, the ICFP performs the role of a Children's Trust. Further information about the background and context can be found in the links to the left.

The Child Poverty Act 2010 also requires local authorities and their names partners to work together to reduce child poverty and its effects on children and families in the local area. Further information can be found on the Child Poverty pages.

In the pages in this section, you can find out more about the work of the ICFP, our partnerships and key policies, and the direction of travel for improving the quality of life for children and families.
