Young People

The Safer Islington Partnership (SIP) is committed to supporting the effective coordination of services to realise the Every Child Matters outcomes and the outcomes in the Children’s Act 2004. Islington has a strategic aim to increase our work with young people to prevent their involvement in criminality, drug misuse and anti social behaviour. To achieve this we are working with our partners to develop and support services aimed at reducing crime, disorder, anti-social behaviour and substance misuse among young people in Islington.

The Young People, Crime and Drugs Strategy and Commissioning Group is the administrative group responsible for overseeing the Safer Islington Partnership’s work with young people. The group has strategic links with other local agencies such as; Islington Children’s and Young People’s Services, Police, Primary Care Trust, Mental Health and Social Care Trust, Probation and Education Authority.

The SIP’s work with young people aims to identify those at risk of offending early and work with them holistically to prevent their involvement in crime. We also work to address the behaviour of young people already committing crimes. Initiatives supported by SIP include mentoring schemes for primary school children, projects specifically for parents, and support for young victims of crime. We also work with local community based projects to offer young people new opportunities.

Islington’s Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Service offers information, advice, assessment and one to one support to young people and their families affected by or worried about drug and alcohol issues.
