Listen Up

The Listen Up project works with children and young people in Islington to find out what they think about the borough they live in, and to see that their ideas are listened to when the council makes decisions about the area they live, work and study in.

How Does Listen Up Do This?

  • makes sure that young people are as involved as much as possible in the council’s decision making process and the services that the council designs and delivers
  • gives young people the power to be able to do something about the issues that affect them.
  • helps young people raise awareness and take action about things they want to change in Islington.

To achieve this, Listen Up works in a variety of ways, such as; arts, drama, music, video, peer researchers, questionnaires and discussion forums.

The project works with a number of organisations in Islington such as; youth groups, adventure playgrounds, libraries, housing, education and voluntary organisations to consult on many issues that affect children and young people.

Why should children and young people get involved?

Because you can have your say about the decisions that the council makes which affect your area, for example:

  • new building or parks
  • getting involved with planning and design
  • telling the police how you feel about crime in your area

You can tell us what you think the issues are for young people living in Islington today, and get involved in planning events and projects to raise awareness about these issues.

If you would like to make any suggestions, learn more about what we are working on at the moment, or find out about getting involved, contact Listen Up:
