    Taxicard

Taxicards are only issued on the grounds of mobility.

    How does it work?

The table below shows what you pay for a single journey (remember any amount over the fare limit, you are responsible for paying)

Most Boroughs (including Islington) Member Flat Rate Borough Maximum Subsidy Fare Limit
    From 6am-8pm Mon-Fri £1.50 £10.30 £11.80
    From 9-10pm on Fri, from 6am-10pm Sat-Sun £1.50 £11.30 £12.80
    From 10pm-6am Mon-Sun £1.50 £12.80 £14.30

Taxicard is currently valid with Computercab only. You can either book in advance or pick it up on the street.

You are eligible for a Taxicard if you meet the following criteria:

    • have serious mobility difficulties so that they either cannot use public transport, or find it virtually impossible to do
    • have a disability that is permanent, having lasted, or expected to last, at least twelve months
    • have a walking impairment that causes them to walk only with excessive labour and at an extremely slow pace or with excessive pain at all times

Taxicards will automatically be issued to applicants if:

    • they are in receipt of higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (as evidenced by an original Certificate of Entitlement from DLA) hold a War Pensioner mobility supplement (as evidenced by a letter of award for this benefit)
    • hold a War Pensioner mobility supplement (as evidenced by a letter of award for this benefit)
    • they are registered blind or partially blind (as evidenced by a BD8 or CVI100 ophthalmologist report)
    • their disabilities have lasted at least 12 months, or are expected to last at least 12 months.

Applicants who cannot demonstrate that they hold any of the above will be asked to attend a mopbility assessment.

Please note that children under 3 do not qualify unless it can be demonstrated that they require an oxygen cylinder to be carried with them at all times.  Islington operated the scheme on the same basis as the Disability Living Allowance which states that a child up to the age of 3 can be carried or be in a carriage/pushchair.
