Islington's Ways of Working

Islington's Ways of Working

Our ways of working are embedded in all that we do. They are included in our appraisal process because how you do things is just as important as what you do. Here are a list of our ways of working:

  • Open and honest communications: We communicate the full picture clearly in a style suitable to the people we are communicating with. We prefer face to face discussion and welcome feedback as well as giving clear, constructive feedback.
  • Supportive and working together: We help our colleagues, sharing information and knowledge, building relationships within and between teams and let others know we appreciate them and their contribution.
  • Take responsibility: We are constructive and proactive in our work, and manage our  workload and our impact on other people to ensure we deliver results. Mistakes are made but we learn from them.
  • Customer focus: We are as helpful as possible to our colleagues and customers, trying to resolve issues ourselves and not pass people on to others. We are polite and resourceful to meet the customer needs.
  • New ideas: We get actively involved in change and improvements, seeking out new ideas and best practices, and making suggestions to build on the ideas of others.
  • Efficient and effective: We deliver on our goals and do what we say we will do.
  • Leadership: We are all ambassadors for the council and develop ourselves to do our best.

And our managers:

  • Demonstrate a clear and shared vision and set of values with their team.
  • Are accountable for their own and their team performance, modeling and delivering excellence.
  • Empower others and instill confidence through personal example.
  • Challenge and are challenged to ensure continuous learning and development.
