We strive to make Islington a great place by managing the physical and economic infrastructure with our Strategic Planning and Regeneration team. They also tackle worklessness and deprivation to get people back into work in the borough.
The council faces some unique challenges within the population of Islington. For example, when several generations in one family have not experienced full time work, breaking the cycle can be hard. Our employment coaches work with individuals to build interview skills and confidence to approach the job application process.
Working with users, stakeholders and partner organisations, our public protection activities are set to national standards. We deliver a range of regulatory services such as trading standards to ensure that, members of the public buy safe goods and services, and are protected from 'scams'. Then, there's environmental health, parking and even emergency planning functions with roles as varied as Gravedigger, Licensing officer and Street trading inspector.
