One Step

One Step

If you’re claiming incapacity, sickness or disability benefits but want to work, the One Step programme could help you.

The package of support on offer includes:

  • Access to a variety of jobs, training and volunteering opportunities
  • Help in writing CVs, application forms and interview practice
  • Work tasters and work experience
  • Continued support once you’ve obtained work
  • Flexible training
  • Welfare benefits advice
  • Therapeutic support, including cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Four weeks worth of childcare costs

The council’s regeneration service has brought together five local partner organisations to deliver the programme, and you can find out more about what each one does from the Partner Organisations link to the left.

You can also get more information about the full range of support offered from the Programme Details link.

One Step is entirely voluntary and will not affect your benefits. If you decide to join, all the services are free and tailored to your particular needs.

To join the programme, you need to live in Islington and have been on incapacity or a health related benefit for at least 26 weeks.

Joining One Step

To join or discuss the programme further you will need to contact Tomorrow's People. You'll find the details under Contacts at the bottom of this page.

There you will meet an adviser to discuss what you would like to do and the skills and experience that you have. The adviser will also want to talk about what may have prevented you from achieving your ambitions so far.

You will both then agree an individual programme of training and employment support that can be delivered by the One Step delivery partner organisations.
