Trading Standards is responsible for enforcing laws that deal with the sale of age restricted products such as tobacco, knives, alcohol and fireworks. This is to protect the health and safety of young people, and the community as a whole.
Compliance is checked through test purchase exercises using young volunteers. Trading Standards work with the police and the council’s Licensing Service to take action when an illegal sale has been made to a young person.
Consumers: if you would to volunteer to take part in an age restricted product test or would like to report a premises where you believe under age sales are occurring please contact us.
For advice and tools to help you avoid underage sales, download the Essential guide to age-related products, a refusals monitoring book and a training record book at the bottom of this page. You can also download posters to display in your business.
