Personal Licences

Personal Licences

Under the Licensing Act 2003, a personal licence holder must authorise the supply of alcohol.

Further information

A personal licence is not linked to any particular premises and an individual may apply for a personal licence even if they are not currently employed at a licensed premises. the licence may become associated with a particular premises if the holder becomes a Designated Premises Supervisor responsible for the supply of alcohol on a premises licence.

A personal licence in itself does not authorise the supply of alcohol.

Making an application

You must apply for a personal licence to the licensing authority where you are normally resident. If you do not live in Islington you will need to apply to the local authority that covers the area where you live. Once you hold a personal licence you must inform the council of any changes in your personal circumstances, such as change of address or if you are charged with any criminal convictions.
