Door Supervisor Scheme
Local councils no longer deal with the
licensing of door supervisors. There is now a nationally recognised scheme run
by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), that issues official licences to
door supervisors. Because it is a national scheme, once registered with the
SIA, licensed door supervisors are subsequently able work wherever they want
in the country.
In London the scheme came into force on 11
April 2005. Please note therefore that Islington Council Door Supervisor
Registrations are no longer valid.
Changes in training
As part of the Door Supervisor Scheme, the SIA introduced a new standard of
training, which must be achieved to obtain official registration. For many
door supervisors this may differ from approved courses they have already
attended and some may find they will need to take all or a part of the SIA's
new approved training and examinations.
The SIA itself does
not run training, but has endorsed awarding bodies who will approve trainers
to provide the courses up to their standard. Door supervisors will need to
check with the awarding bodies whether the training they have already had was
with an approved company, and if not may need to retake part or all of their
training to meet the new registration standard.
Remember to m
ake sure that your chosen training establishment presents one of the SIA
approved training courses.
