Health and Safety

Islington's Commercial Environmental Health Service ensures that workplaces are safe and that employees and people affected by work activities are not exposed to health and safety risks by:

  • carrying out inspections of workplaces
  • offering legal advice to Islington businesses
  • investigating reportable accidents that occur in the workplace
  • investigating complaints about unsafe premises or practices
  • carrying out project work on specific business activities or common work practices
  • working in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive, other local authorities and businesses on specific projects.

European Campaign for Safety and Health at Work 2008-09

The European Campaign for Safety and Health at Work for 2008-09 is focusing on risk assessment. This two-year campaign is aimed at a wide range of stakeholders, including employers, workers and safety representatives, and is intended to promote the benefits of completing and implementing a risk assessment. The campaign aims to demystify the risk assessment process and show that it isn't complicated, bureaucratic or a task only for experts. It also aims to provide information and practical advice, encourage activities that have a positive impact in the workplace, and identify and recognise good practice.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is promoting the campaign and running a number of activities and events. You can find out more on their website – follow the link on the right or call the HSE helpline on 0845 345 0055.
