There are four main established street markets in Islington.
Chapel Market in the heart of Angel, lies between Liverpool Road and Penton Street and is the largest street market in Islington. It includes three adjacent streets: Godson Street (Sunday trading only) White Conduit Street and Baron Street.
The market is open 9am - 6pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays and 8.30am - 4pm on
Sundays. This is a general market selling all types of goods and foods.
Whitecross Street Market is one of the oldest markets in London, having operated for over 150 years. It is located between Old Street and Fortune Street.
The market is open 10am - 5pm, Mondays to Saturdays, and is very popular with local office workers at lunchtimes. All types of goods and foods are sold within the market.
The market has benefitted from major investment from Islington Council, EC1 New Deal, City of London and English Heritage.
In addition to the daily general market, a specialist food market runs every Thursday and Friday, with up to 50 producers selling a range of locally sourced mouthwatering food and drink.
Exmouth Market is located between Rosebery Avenue and Farringdon Road in the south-west of the borough. The market is open 9am - 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Archway market, which takes place every Thursday (12pm - 5pm) and Saturday (10am - 5pm), is located on the corner of St John's Grove and Holloway Road. The range of goods on offer includes organic and speciality food, hand crafted jewellery, fashion and books.
In addition to the three main markets, there are scattered pitches and market areas across the borough, where licensed traders also operate. A list of the streets where these pitches are located is included in the Street Trading Licence Leaflet downloadable from the bottom of this page.
