The Islington Education Business Partnership works alongside schools to
broker support from the business community to help prepare young people for
the world of work. It provides full support, training and resources to all
participants and supporters of our programmes.
You may
work as an employee in a locally based company, manage a team of staff, or be
self-employed. Whatever your area of work, if you or your company wants to get
involved in supporting young people in Islington we want to hear from you.
Work experience offers Islington’s young people the opportunity to prepare for the challenges of the workplace by becoming familiar with the skills and attitudes needed by modern businesses. On a placement, the employer will provide meaningful work for the young person and provide an overview of different aspects of the organisation, often linking with assignments and coursework.
This programme provides an ideal opportunity for volunteers from the business
sector and the community to spend time each week with Islington’s primary and
secondary school pupils.
In the primary schools the pupils
benefit from having a friendly adult to provide encouragement and boost their
self-confidence in a wide range of activities including reading, maths and ICT
for half an hour per week.
Secondary schools mentors support
and guide students as they consider what they want to do after leaving school.
Mentors can introduce them to a new perspective and to the world of business.
They can motivate them to study and can become a role model at a critical
stage in the young person’s development – helping to make the decisions that
will shape the rest of their lives.
If you would like to use
your experience to support a young person, why not join our team of mentors
working one-to-one with young people across Islington.
The wide variety of work related projects supported by the Islington Education
Business Partnership reflect the diverse range of opportunities available to
young people in the borough. We have a range of sector specific projects that
enable a student to experience work related activities including construction,
enterprise, creative media, health and banking. The projects include work
place visits, competitions and challenges, hands on industry activities,
business volunteers and problem solving activities.
If you or your business would like to find out more about these exciting projects please contact Islington Education Business Partnership on 020 7527 5860 or email IEBPinfo@islington.gov.uk.
