Adventure playgrounds
Play is an important part of every child’s development and essential both to their health and happiness.
Our adventure playgrounds are for children aged 6 and over. They are designed and built with children and young people, and are supervised by trained play workers.
They are free for children who live or go to school in Islington. You do not need to book but children have to register before playing.
Playing outdoors can help children to develop self-confidence and social skills, as well as stay healthy.
School term opening times
Cape Adventure playground
Open Monday to Friday, 3:15pm to 6:15pm for free play sessions.

Open Tuesday to Friday, 3:30pm to 6:30pm for free play sessions
Saturday's Family Play sessions take place 11:30am to 4:30pm for free play sessions, open to all ages with a parent or carer

Summer holidays
Opening times
Cape, Cornwallis, King Henry’s Walk, Three Corners, Waterside and Barnard Adventure playground will be open from Monday 20 July to Friday 28 August.
They will offer free, supervised play for children and young people.
Free adventure playground sessions will take place Monday to Friday at:
- 10:30am to 1:30pm
- 2:30pm to 5:30pm
Free healthy meal
A free healthy meal will be available for children at all 6 Adventure Playgrounds between 12:30pm and 1:30pm during the morning session.
This is as part of the free holiday activities with lunch programme.
Childcare Hour for working parents
To support working families, we offer an optional Childcare Hour between 1:30pm and 2:30pm.
It costs £6 per child.
Children can remain safely at the playground during the lunchtime closure, so they can attend both the free morning and afternoon play sessions without needing to be collected or taken home.
This provides a full day of supervised play from 10:30am until 5:30pm, with just the one-hour childcare session charged.

- midday to 5pm: open play for children aged 6 and over only
- midday to 2pm: family play sessions - parents and carers can bring children of all ages but you have to supervise your children
